SIOUX CITY -- Wayne E. Beach, 82, of Sioux City died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave., with the Rev. Debra Stowers, pastor of Community United Methodist Church in Sergeant Bluff, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, rural Sloan, Iowa, with military rites conducted by American Legion George Nelson Post 662. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Wayne was born Feb. 2, 1926, on a farm near Westfield, Iowa, to George and Loie (Maynard) Beach. He grew up in the Westfield area, attending school there and later farmed with his father. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.

Wayne married Delores Olson on Jan. 19, 1952, at Skein Lutheran Church in Albaton, Iowa. Delores died Feb. 14, 1990, in Sioux City. The couple lived briefly in the Akron, Iowa, area before moving to Sergeant Bluff in 1953. He was an employee of the Sioux City Stockyards Company for 25 years. He left the yards in 1977 to go into business for himself.

He was of the Christian faith. He was an active member of the Sergeant Bluff Fire Department for 10 years and was then made an honorary member. He was a member of American Legion George Nelson Post 662. Wayne was also a member of the Morningside Masonic Lodge 615 A.F.&A.M.

Survivors include his special friend, Ardella Fead of Sioux City; two daughters, Debra L. Ross and her husband, Vernon, and Sandra Holmberg and her husband, Timothy, all of Sioux City; six grandchildren, Michael Tighe, Jason Coil, James and Stacey Ross, Jennifer and Lindsay Holmberg; and a great-granddaughter, Sierra Muckey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Delores; a daughter, Donna Tucker; and a brother, Kenneth Beach.

Pallbearers will be Timothy Holmberg, Vernon Ross, Gary and Gerald Beach, Michael Tighe and James Ross.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland. Also, the family would like to thank Hospice of Siouxland for the care given to Wayne.
