James M. Daniels, 73, lifelong Sioux City resident, died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Mount Olive Baptist Church, with the Rev. Chuck McGruder officiating. Private family graveside services will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mr. Daniels was born May 24, 1929, in Sioux City to George and Ethel (Johnson) Daniels. He attended Sioux City schools and graduated from Central High in 1947. He attended Morningside College for four years and was a member of the football team. He was very active in sports which included track, basketball, football and boxing and was a member of the Golden Gloves Boxing Club. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

He married the former Myrtle Pullins on May 21, 1951, in Sioux City. He was employed at Armour and Co. for many years and also was employed with MidAmerican Energy as a meter reader for 15 years.

Survivors include his wife, Myrtle; five sons, David of Sioux Falls, S.D., Duane of Dallas, Texas, and Daryl, Derek and Damon, all of Sioux City; two daughters, Diana Daniels of Inglewood, Calif., and Darla Burns of Sioux City; a brother, Albert Daniels of California; two sisters, Kathryn Irvin of Sioux City, and Gladys Green of Racine, Wis.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter; two sisters and three brothers.
