Maxine E. Johnson, 76, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002, at her residence.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jon Gaul officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 4 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

Maxine was born on March 26, 1926, near Castana, Iowa, to Roscoe and Beulah (Davis) Rose. She was raised on a farm near Castana and Mapleton and graduated from Castana High School in 1943. She taught rural school near Danbury and Battle Creek from 1943 to 1945.

She was united in marriage to Donald F. Johnson on Nov. 23, 1944, at First Methodist Church in Sioux City. She worked at CNW Railroad for 20 years, retiring in 1986. She, along with her husband, taught ballroom dance lessons for 12 years.

She was a member of Morningside Garden Club and Elco Garhum. She and Don traveled extensively in the U.S. and abroad. She enjoyed gardening and dancing, but most of all her family.

Those left to cherish her memory include a daughter, Rebecca and her husband, Dennis Robinson of Sioux City; a granddaughter, Holly and her husband, Eric Erickson of Kansas City, Mo.; two grandsons, Ryan Robinson and his wife, Marcia ,and Jeremy Robinson, all of Sioux City; two great-grandsons, Riley Robinson and Carter Erickson; a brother, Lyle Rose and his wife, Di Ann of Mapleton, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Virgie Lund of Battle Creek, Iowa, and Nadine Rude of Ute, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Pallbearers will be Eric Erickson, Holly Erickson, Larry Hare, Mike Levich, Jeremy Robinson, Ryan Robinson, Marcia Robinson and David Rose.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jackie Poznanski, Harold Schwagerl, Rudy Roe, Larry Roe and Mac Roe.

Memorials may be made in Maxine's name to Hospice of Siouxland, 224 Fourth Street, Sioux City, Iowa 51101.
