Dwight G. Nagel, 81, of Sioux City died Monday, March 14, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Revs. Craig Bock and Krishen Persaud officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8:30 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

Mr. Nagel was born Feb. 7, 1927, in Sioux City, the son of Albert E. and Gesiena (VanGorkom) Nagel. He was a lifelong Sioux City resident. He attended school and graduated from East High School in 1942. After school he entered the U.S. Army, serving during World War II in the European Theater, especially in France. Following his return from the military, he worked for the U.S. Post Office with special delivery mail.

He married Joyce Ewing in 1946. She died in 1978. He later married Janice Olsen on June 27, 1987, in Sioux City.

He was a member of St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Postal Union and the American Legion Monahan post 64. He enjoyed spending time with all of his family, listening to books on audio tapes and just sitting outside in the sunshine.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Nagel of Sioux City; four children and their spouses, Mike and Stephanie Nagel of Canon City, Colo., Judy Lynn and Mike Mayhew of Spicer, Minn., Steve and Laurie Nagel of Story City, Iowa, and Lori Beth and Stephen Lee of Nashua, Iowa; five stepsons and their wives, Don and Jayne Olsen of Noblesville, Ind., and Randy and Linda Olsen, Terry and Donelle Olsen, Roy and Melanie Olsen and Dennis and Lynne Olsen, all of Sioux City; a sister and her husband, Virginia and Don Lawrenson of Sioux City; 18 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Merlyn Nagel; and his first wife, Joyce Nagel.

Memorials may be directed to the June Nylen Cancer Center or the American Diabetes Association.
