Robert G. Barger, 74, of Sioux City died unexpectedly Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, at his residence.

Services will be 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Cornerstone Faith Center, with the Rev. Larry Gordon officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., with the Rev. Donna Smith officiating, all at Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel.

Robert was born July 3, 1928, in, Columbus, Neb., the son of Hal E. and Viola (Riemers) Barger. He graduated from East High School in Sioux City in 1946, and then served in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1946 to 1948.

He married Roseann Madsen on July 26, 1949, in Sioux City. He was employed with St. Luke's Hospital and then Iowa Public Service Co. until his retirement in 1992.

He participated in civic organizations and was a member of the Sioux City Choral Association and was a church soloist for many years. He was well known for his beautiful baritone voice and wonderful wood carvings. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and special friends. He was an active member of Cornerstone Faith Center and loved the Lord.

Survivors include his wife, Roseann of Sioux City; a son, Marc Barger and his wife, Lisa of La Crosse, Wis.; two daughters, Melinda Brienzo of Sioux City, and Barbara Dean and her husband, Alan of Spencer, Iowa; four grandchildren, Matt Brienzo, Rachael Barger, Megan Brienzo and Anna Dean; a brother, Hal E. Barger Jr. and his wife, Wanda of Lincoln, Neb.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
