SERGEANT BLUFF -- Gloria Ann Placek, 63, of Sergeant Bluff died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at Sergeant Bluff Care Center following an extended illness.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses in Sioux City, with Mr. Vance Harnack officiating. There will be no visitation. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Gloria was born Sept. 17, 1939, in Norfolk, Neb., the daughter of Jess Merle and Mae Anna (Scheidegger) Grant. She moved as a young child with her parents to North Platte, Neb. She graduated from North Platte High School in 1957. Following graduation from high school, she moved to Denver, Colo. She graduated from Denver Secretarial College in 1962. She then worked in the Denver community.

She married Edwin E. Placek on Dec. 30, 1965, in Mitchell, S.D. He passed away Nov. 6, 1991, in Sioux City. Following her marriage in 1965, she came to Iowa and had lived here since that time. She worked at Younkers and Aalfs Manufacturing in Sioux City for many years.

She was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses.

Survivors include her mother, Mae Grant of Lawton, Iowa; a niece and two nephews.

In addition to her husband, Edwin, she was preceded in death by her father in 1962; and a brother, Harry Grant in 1968.
