HORNICK, Iowa -- Cindy Palmer, 44, of Hornick died unexpectedly Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury, Iowa, with the Revs. William Schreiber, David J. Slaven and Richard Ball officiating. Burial will be in Danbury Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a vigil wake service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton, Iowa. Visitation will resume 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church.

Cindy Jo Palmer was born May 29, 1958, the daughter of Michael Cecil and Norma (Treiber) Burke in Ida Grove, Iowa. She attended Danbury Catholic Elementary School and graduated from Maple Valley High School in 1976.

Cindy was united in marriage on Sept. 11, 1976, to James "Jim" Palmer in Onawa, Iowa. Cindy and Jim were blessed with two daughters, Kimberly and Jennifer. She worked for several years at various businesses in the Mapleton and Sioux City areas. Cindy had been employed by Guarantee Oil Co. in Dakota Dunes for the past four years.

She was a member of St. Joseph Church in Salix, Iowa, and was very active in various church and school activities. She taught CCD classes for 11 years in the Salix and Merrill church parishes. She enjoyed doing all kinds of crafts, collecting Precious Moments, volunteering for school activities, attending sports events, outdoor activities and spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, Jim of Hornick; her daughters, Kim and Jenni of Hornick; her mother, Norma Burke of Danbury; five sisters, Bonnie and her husband, Arthur "Butch" Holtz of Hinton, Iowa, Beverly and her husband, Tom McNamara of Mapleton, Rita and her husband, Rick Strom of Sioux City, Nancy Burke of Ida Grove, and Donna Burke and her fiance, Donald Rodman of Peoria, Ariz.; four brothers, Pat Burke and his wife, Charlotte Nagel of Gillette, Wyo., Tim Burke and his wife, Sandy of Mapleton, Robert "Bob" Burke and his wife, Mae of Peoria, and Ed Burke and his wife, Thyra of Ames, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Doreen Burke of Peoria; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mary and Elmer Palmer of Mapleton; a brother-in-law, Rick Palmer of Mapleton; a special friend, Father Richard Ball of Dow City, Iowa; 23 nieces and nephews; and several cousins, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Cindy was preceded in death by her father, Michael Cecil Burke, and a brother, Michael "Jim" Burke.
