SIOUX CITY -- Alan Joel Zeplain, 54, of Houston, Texas, formerly of Sioux City, passed away suddenly Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008.

Services were held Oct. 3 at Congregation Beth Yeshurun in Houston, where Rabbi David Rosen and Hazzan David Propis officiated. Burial was in Congregation Beth Yeshurun Cemetery.

Alan was born July 15, 1954 in Sioux City, the son of Gert and Will Zeplain. He graduated from Central High School in 1972, where he was in the band and very musically inclined. He attended the University of Arizona before transferring in 1974 to the University of Texas in Austin. He was a proud member of Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity and graduated in 1976.

It was at the University of Texas where he met his future wife, Houstonian Suzy Roberts. Married for almost 28 years, they had known each other for 33 years. Theirs was a marriage filled with love, laughter and sports. Their three sons, Daniel, Adam and Andrew, were star athletes. Professionally, he was an independent insurance broker. He took a personal interest in each of his clients and earned not only their trust but their friendship. Throughout the years, he was recognized in the insurance industry with numerous awards and honors.

He is survived by his wife, Suzy; his sons, Daniel, Adam and Andrew; his sister and her husband, Fran and Simon Zakalik; his brothers and sisters-in-law, David Roberts, Sammy and Valerie Roberts, Mindy and Lee Rosenthal, Joshua and Gina Roberts and Polly and Ralph Robinson; and many adoring nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
