LAWTON, Iowa -- Luella Mildred (Wiese) Beers, 88, of Lawton, formerly of the Correctionville and Cushing, Iowa, area, passed away Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, at Char-Mac Assisted Living of Lawton.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Grace United Methodist Church in Correctionville. Burial will be in Cushing Cemetery, Cushing. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home in Correctionville.

Luella was born June 13, 1920, on a farm southeast of Cushing, the third of six children born to Herman and Christina (Clausen) Wiese.

On Deb. 25, 1938, she married Melvin Eldon Beers in Sioux City. To this union four children were born, Karen, Marlene, Byron and Duane. The couple farmed south of Correctionville until retiring in 1983, when they moved into Cushing.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. The couple enjoyed many years of fishing, dancing, golfing, playing cards, being snowbirds for 26 winters in Mesa, Ariz., and summers in Cushing. This made it possible to spend lots of time with many friends and family members. She had been residing at Char-Mac in Lawton the past five and one half years.

Those left to cherish her memory are her four children and spouses, Karen and Leonard Wilcox of Correctionville, Marlene and Darrell Kirstine of Syracuse, Utah, Byron and Cyndie Beers of Mesa, Ariz., and Duane and Marcia Beers of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 11 grandchildren and spouses, Renee and Troy Jerman of Ames, Iowa, Ryan and Debra Wilcox of Correctionville, Lynda Kirstine and Susan Kirstine, both of Glendale, Ariz., Michael Kirstine of Syracuse, Utah, Brent and Brenda Beers of Mesa, Ariz., Jennifer and Dan Jewett of Mesa, Brittany Beers of Mesa, Corwin and Kristin of Phoenix, Eric Beers of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Kristin and Adam Breiner of Prior Lake, Minn.; 17 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Edna Steen of Des Moines and Lorraine Rochau of Holstein, Iowa; two brothers, Eldon Wiese and his wife, Eva of Mapleton, Iowa, and Alvin Wiese of Holstein, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years; her parents; and a sister, Hermina Wiese of Holstein.
