SIOUX CITY -- Robert Newton Force, 90, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center.

Per his wishes, the body was cremated. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Saturday in Graceland Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Robert was born Feb. 12, 1918, in Sioux City, the son of Judson H. and H. Mae (Bendixen) Force. A lifelong resident of Sioux City, he graduated from Central High School in 1935. After graduation, he served his country in the U.S. Army.

He married Madeline H. Heine on June 25, 1938. He was employed for a number of years by Finley and Rath, whose business, he later purchased along with Sioux City Blue Print and operated as a land surveyor. He also worked at Sioux City Tools during the war years as well as the Woodbury Engineering Office.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council, taught Sunday School and sang for a number of years in the choir. He was a member of the American Legion Monahan Post 64, Nordic Male Chorus and Scandinavian Societies, the Siouxland Senior Center Chorus, Sioux City Stamp Club, the Woodbury County Genealogical Society and the Noon Lions Club.

He is survived by his son, Ronald W. (Jo Ellen) Force of Moscow, Idaho; three daughters, Judith (Leonard) Sigler of Bella Vista, Ark., Barbara (Darrell) Stansbury of Sioux City and Ellen (James) Kalkwarf of Des Moines; six grandsons; three granddaughters; 13 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; an infant daughter, Patricia; a sister, Dorothy; and a brother, Donald.
