Frieda Martha Mickelson, 84, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, March 30, 2008, at Indian Hills Hospice in Sioux City.

Private family services were held Tuesday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel. Burial will be in Battle Creek, Iowa.

Frieda Martha Mickelson was born July 18, 1923, in Battle Creek, Iowa, to William and Carrie (Hansen) Heinse. She attended grades first through 12 at the Anthon (Iowa) Community School.

In November 1950, she was joined in marriage to Gordon Mickelson. The couple had four children, Martha, Allen, Paul and David. She lived all of her life in and around the Anthon, Iowa, area before moving to Sioux City in her final years.

She was very active in the Trinity Lutheran Church, but first and foremost, she was a mother and grandmother to her family. She loved to cook, bake and garden. She enjoyed passing this knowledge on to her kids and grandkids.

She is survived by two brothers, Edward (Lucille) Heinse of Anthon, Iowa, and Fred (Jeanette) Heinse of Correctionville, Iowa; three sons, Allen Mickelson and his wife, Pam of Sergeant Bluff, Paul Mickelson of Pensacola, Fla., and David Mickelson of Sioux City; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild, Matthew Mickelson of San Jose, Calif. and his son, Nikolas, Terra Mickelson of Sioux City, Kimberly Mickelson of Phoenix, Ariz., John Mickelson of Iowa City, Iowa, and Martha Mickelson of Indianola, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, William Heinse Jr. and Bertha King; and a daughter, Martha Ellen Young.
