4 April 2008Dr. Robert W. Rae, 90, formerly of Sioux City went to be with the Lord March 18, 2008, at his residence in Carlmont Gardens Nursing Center in Belmont, Calif.
A private family service will be held at a later date in Colorado.
Dr. Rae graduated from Central High School with Sioux City's famous twins, Dear Abby and Ann Landers, and from Morningside College. He then went to McCormick Seminary in Chicago, where he was ordained into the Presbyterian ministry. He returned to Sioux City to serve as senior pastor at Morningside Presbyterian Church from 1958 to 1963 with his beloved wife, Joyce. Over the course of his ministry, he served as senior pastor in Wheaton and Worthington, Minn., and Des Moines. Upon his retirement, he continued to serve part-time in Scottsdale and Mesa, Ariz. After Joyce's death in 1999. He moved to Duarte, Calif., where he met his second wife, Beth.
During his 57 years of ministry, he received many awards including an honorary doctor of divinity from Morningside College.
He is survived by his wife, Beth; five daughters and their families, Jana (Ted) Rogers of Garden Grove, Calif., Sharolyn Kriger of Redwood Shores, Calif., Mary Rae (Ian Schneiderman) of Lexington, Mass., Robin (Joe) Smith of Boone, Iowa, and Barb (Dave) Folkerts of Melbourne, Fla.; and 12 grandchildren.
He leaves a loving legacy that will live on in our hearts forever.
