SERGEANT BLUFF -- Darrell Edward Krogh formerly of Sergeant Bluff passed away Friday, March 28, 2008, at Medical Center of Plano, Texas, of aspirated pneumonia.

Per his wishes, his ashes will be scattered over the farm where he was born. Arrangements are under the direction of Allen Family Funeral Options in Plano.

Darrell was born Feb. 13, 1923, on the family farm in Sergeant Bluff, to Lewis Edward and Sadie (Roehlk) Krogh. He graduated from Sergeant Bluff High School with the class of 1941. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a pilot in the Pacific during World War II. After the war, he served in the Air National Guard and worked on the family farm. In 1952, he went into banking, working in Sioux City, Marshall and Worthington, Minn.

In 1967, he went to work for King Castle out of Chicago and then Church's Fried Chicken in 1969. He managed a store in Odessa, Texas, then moved to Albuquerque, N.M., and Birmingham, Ala., as regional manager. He then became the southwest regional manager out of Phoenix, Ariz., in 1987. In 2001, he returned to Odessa, Texas. He had been residing in Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Plano, Texas for the last two years due to a broken hip and advanced stages of Parkinson's.

He was married to Nathalie Knutson on March 16, 1946, in Osage, Iowa. They had three children, Barbara Maxine, Cheryl Ann and John Sanford. They divorced and on Nov. 9, 1973, he wed Katie Thedford Stevens in Odessa.

He is survived by his three children, Barbara Krogh of Guthrie, Okla., Cheryl and her husband, Thomas Tella of Plano, Texas, and John Krogh and his wife, Rhonda of Odessa, Texas; three grandchildren, Amber and her husband, Dan Cox, Samantha Tella and Chad Tella; a great-granddaughter, Danika Cox; stepdaughters and their husbands, Mary Beth and Robert Snead and Martha Lynn and Harrel Harrison; a granddaughter and her husband, Kimberly and Rick Barnes; a great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Barnes; and a brother and his wife, Kenneth and Pat Krogh.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Katie in 2004; his parents; two brothers, Max and Donald; and a sister, Lois Dodge.
