Lalah Rose Henderson Hallett, 85, of Lincoln, Neb., formerly of Sioux City, died Friday, April 4, 2008.

Services are pending at Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Lalah was born Sept. 14, 1922, at Coleridge, Neb., daughter of Kelly L. and Mary "Ecie" Henderson.

She attended Coleridge School and graduated with the class of 1939. Following graduation, she moved to Sioux City and was secretary to Dr. Eugene Keefe for four years.

She married Lloyd Elmer Hallett at Saint Francis Catholic Church in Randolph, Neb. They moved to California, where she worked for a colonel in the U.S. Navy for 16 months. They returned to Sioux City and then spent time in Osmond, Neb., where she was employed at Osmond Republican Newspaper. She was employed with Polaykoff Food Market in Sioux City for nine years and the Sioux City School District for 16 years before retiring in 1988.

Lalah was active in PTA. She served as president of the Irving Grade School PTA, organized the first PTA at Woodrow Wilson Junior High School and served as its first president. She was vice president of the Sioux City PTA Council. Lalah was a den mother for Boy Scouts and assisted with Brownies. She was a member of the Mid City PAC during urban renewal and a past member of the Mary Treglia Neighborhood and CAST Officers.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Dwight Gatzemeyer of Lincoln; a son, Ric Hallett of Hastings, Neb.; and a daughter-in-law, Cherell Hallett of San Francisco, Calif. She has six grandchildren, Justin Gatzemeyer of Ocoee, Fla., Megan and husband, Kip Lynch of Overland Park, Kan., Ryan Gatzemeyer of Peoria, Ill., Corey and wife, Jessica Hallett of Hastings, Neb., Josh Hallett of Lincoln, Neb., and Courtney Hallett of Lincoln; three great-grandchildren, Parker Hallett of Hastings, Jace Hallett of Lincoln, and Mason Roach of Lincoln; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Ellan and Marvin Van Kirk of Bancroft, Neb., and Evelyn and Rob Wehyrich of Cypress, Calif.; a brother-in-law, Richard and Marg Hallett of Spencer, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Lloyd Hallett; a son, Bradford Hallett; her parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Martin Dirks; her mother-in-law, Lillie Hallett; brothers-in-law, Gerald Hallett and Carl Hoffman; and a sister-in-law, Eleanor Hoffman.

Memorials may be directed to the Carmelite Sisters in Sioux City, and Mount Marty College in Yankton, S.D., and the Nebraska Fraternal Order of Police.
