Everett O. Gulbronson, 70, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital surrounded by his family following a courageous battle with leukemia.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. A military flag presentation will conclude the service. Everett was born Sept. 1, 1937, in Sioux City, the son of Percy and Mary (Skaff) Gulbronson. He graduated from Bishop Heelan High School in 1955, then served in the U.S. Navy.

He married Carol L. Pickering on March 20, 1971, in Sioux City. He was a lifelong Sioux City resident. He worked for Sears as an auto mechanic for 29 years. He then worked for Thorpe Electric as a machinist for 11 years before his retirement.

He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. In his younger years, he loved to play baseball and football. When his sons were young, he enjoyed coaching their ball teams. His main hobby was repairing cars. He was known to be a jack-of-all-trades as he just loved to tinker. He was a man of great integrity and conviction. He was very family oriented and proud of his family.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; four sons, Joseph Gulbronson and his wife, Stephanie of Des Moines, James Gulbronson of Sioux City, Thomas Gulbronson of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Andrew Gulbronson and his fiancee, Melissa of Sioux City; four sisters and a brother, Delores Gulbronson of Sioux City, Betty and her husband, Melvin Gaertner of Cary, N.C., JoAnn and her husband, Gordon Meyer of Clark, S.D., George Gulbronson and his wife, Laura of Sioux City and Linda Weston of Sioux City; five grandchildren, Brandon, Jordan, Lance, Cameron and Joey; many nieces and nephews; and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Carrie; and an infant brother, Joseph.
