Mary Ruth Melentovich, 84, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, April 5, 2008, at Countryside Retirement Home.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with Monsignor Roger Augustine officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Ruth was born May 11, 1923, in Sioux City, to Charles and Helen (Hoebelheinrich) Morgan. She grew up in Sioux City and attended and graduated from Cathedral High School. She worked at various places after school before becoming a switchboard operator at the telephone company.

On April 24, 1948, she married Walter Melentovich at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sioux City. They made their home in Sioux City and enjoyed a happy life together.

She enjoyed family get togethers, reading and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by a daughter and her husband, Suzanne and Max Treinen of Remsen, Iowa; grandchildren and their spouses, Kairee and Nick Gesink of Sioux Center, Iowa, and Nathan and Kristin Treinen and their daughter, Paige of Sioux City; two sisters and their husbands, Adeline and Ray Uhl and Barbara and Duane Meier, all of Sioux City; four brothers and their wives, Jim and Louise Morgan of Scottsdale, Ariz., Tay and Sandy Morgan of Cottage Grove, Minn., Al and Bev Morgan of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Sam and Mary Morgan of Sioux City; a sister-in-law, Helen Melentovich of Omaha; and 18 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter in June 1989; a sister-in-law, Helen Morgan; a brother-in-law, Sam Melentovich; and seven half brothers.
