16 April 2005Lola Marie (Bastian) Taft, 70 of Knoxville, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, passed to her resting place in heaven Thursday, April 14, 2005, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa, from angiosarcoma.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Southtown Funeral Home in Des Moines. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Cumming, Iowa. The service will be nontraditional in that friends are encouraged to dress casually. The music was chosen by Lola and is being sung by old and loved friends and acquaintances. Visitation with the family present will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Lola was born Nov. 13, 1934, in Sioux City, the daughter of Benjamin and Lois (Leitner) Bastian.
On Nov. 26, 1953, she married Donald F. Taft. Over the years, the couple were co-owners of Pioneer Sound Service and Quality South Service. They provided sound and sold instruments and other related items at music festivals. Camping with friends was a love in their life. For the past 10 years, they resided in Donna, Texas, during the winter months. In September 2004, they were inducted into the Old Time Music Hall of Fame.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Don of Knoxville; three daughters, Terri Poole of Granger, Iowa, Karen Low of Norwalk, Iowa, and Darla (Chris) McBee of Norwalk; her grandchildren, Ben and Andy Poole, Brandon Foldes, Lauren Low and Gary, Grant and Abby McBee; her mother, Lois Bastian of Sioux City; and two sisters, Benita (Roger) Leff and Frances (Vern) Torgerson, all of Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by her father, Benjamin W. Bastian; and a granddaughter, Jillian Marie Low.
