Shirley "Babe" Rasmussen, 92, of Sioux City died Saturday, April 9, 2005, at a Sioux City nursing home.

Services were held April 12 at Larkin Northside Funeral Home, where the Rev. Merrill Muller of Wesley United Methodist Church officiated. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Babe was born on Oct. 24, 1912, in Sioux City, the daughter of Earl James and Gertrude Grace (Church) Otis. She lived most of her life in Sioux City. She was in the first class to attend Woodrow Wilson Junior High School, and she attended Bronson High School in Bronson, Iowa.

On Feb. 12, 1934, she married Leslie A. Rasmussen at Wesley United Methodist Church in Leeds. Mr. Rasmussen died on Nov. 26, 1995, in Sioux City.

Babe was active in league bowling for over 26 years. She bowled at the Park Bowl and at the Sioux Village Bowl. She was a member of the Sioux City Boat Club, where she enjoyed golfing. At one time she was a Sioux City women's golf champion. She was a member of Eastern Star and had served as worthy matron for the Azure Chapter in Leeds. She was a former member of the Sioux City Amateur Organ Club. Babe also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, doing ceramics and working crossword puzzles.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Leslie A. "Bill" Jr. and Connie Rasmussen of Sioux City and James W. and Cheri Rasmussen of Egan, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Mark Rasmussen, Tracie Bernhard, Dawn Hickey, Trisha Gargano and Jamie Rasmussen, Suzanne Cloud, Julie Norman and Thad Morse; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchild; and two sisters, Opal Bolen and Corrine Saline, both of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Phillip Fett; a grandchild, Brian Rasmussen; and a great-grandchild, Kathrine Cloud.

Pallbearers will be Mark Rasmussen, Randy Rasmussen, Ryan Rasmussen, Jamie Rasmussen, Greg Hickey and Tony Gargano. Honorary pallbearers will be Thad Morse, Stuart Cloud and Jerry Norman.
