15 April 2005Grace E. "Marty" McCarthy, 92, of Fairhaven, Mass., formerly of Sioux City, died Friday, April 8, 2005, at Lady's Haven Nursing Home in Fairhaven.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Church in Ponca, Neb, with the Rev. David F. Liewer officiating. Burial will be in South Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and a vigil service at 7:30 p.m., at Larkin Northside Funeral Home in Sioux City. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
Marty was born June 11, 1912, in Dexter, N.M., the daughter of William F. and Ida (Barney) Martin.
She married Frank D. McCarthy on Dec. 19, 1936, in Sioux City. Dr. McCarthy died Jan. 7, 1993, in Sioux City. She was a homemaker and housewife. She lived in Sioux City for many years before moving to Fairhaven, Mass. in 1995.
She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and a former member of St. Therese Study Club. She worked with the Sioux City Youth Symphony and was a longtime member of the Sioux City Saddle and Hunt Club. She was a former secretary manager for the Sioux City Horse Show.
Survivors include three sons and their wives, Timothy and Georgia McCarthy, Francis "Gus" and Chris McCarthy and Patrick and Kathy McCarthy; a daughter and her husband, Mary and Edward White; a daughter-in-law, Joan McCarthy; 12 grandchildren, Kelly and Michael McCarthy, Martin and his wife, Ruth McCarthy, Matthew, Patrick and Sarah McCarthy, Conall McCarthy, Timothy, Christopher and Kevin McCarthy and Mary Alice and Edward Andrew White; and two great-grandchildren, Calder McCarthy and Chloe McCarthy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Michael; and four brothers, Earl, Lynn, Gerald and Warren Martin.
Pallbearers will be Michael McCarthy, Martin, Matthew and Patrick McCarthy, Conall McCarthy, Timothy, Christopher and Kevin McCarthy.
