9 December 2005Walter R. "Bob" Svien, 91, Sioux City, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005, at a local hospital following an extended illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. Private burial in the Early, Iowa, cemetery will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Walter "Bob" Svien was born Sept. 6, 1914, son of Thomas and Mary (Fink) Svien in Dennison, Minn. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He married Leone M. Drey in 1942 in Sioux City. She preceded him in death on October of 1973. He later married Doris A. (Denning) Bousquet on Nov. 10, 1979 in Decauter, Neb.
Bob was owner and operator of Paxton Billiards in Omaha until his retirement. He was lifetime member of V.F.W. Bob enjoyed fishing, bowling and dancing and was an avid cribbage layer. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Doris; a daughter, Patricia Basilico and her husband, Frank, Omaha; stepdaughter, Connie Privett and her husband, Nick, Sioux City; a brother, Thomas Svien and his wife, Alcine, Des Moines; four grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and 17 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Ernwine and a stepdaughter, Donna Breaman.
Honorary bearers will be Frank Basilico, Steve Basilico, Rob Breaman, Randall Breaman, Richard Breaman, Warren Baker and Michael Baker.
