8 December 2005Ardell L. Lawson, 79. of Sioux City died Monday, Dec. 5, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Revs. Jim Bruch and Dan Guenther officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., a rosary at 6:30 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Ardell was born in Crofton, Neb., on March 21, 1926. He graduated from Bloomfield (Neb.) High School in 1943. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army's European Theater of operations and was awarded a Bronze Star Medal with honors. After the war, he moved to Sioux City and graduated from the National Business Training School.
He married Clara Giannetti on Jan. 2, 1950. He was vice president of Sieg Sioux City Company and served as president of the National Association of Credit Management. In 1975, he started his own insurance agency, retiring in 1988.
He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, serving as commander of Post 1973, and the Iowa District Fight commander. He also was a former vice commander of the American Legion Post 64 and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He belonged to St. Boniface Catholic Church, where he was a longtime usher and a member of the Men's Club.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Clara; a son, Gregory of Sioux City; two daughters, Gina of Phoenix, Ariz., and Leslie and her husband, Dr. Barry Williams of Boise, Idaho; two grandchildren, Lili Derby Lawson and Reese Williams; two sisters and their husbands, Irene and Herb Flowerday and June and Harold Hart, all of Bend, Ore.; a brother, Arnold of Bloomfield, Neb.; two sisters-in-law, Alice Coppock and Rita Lynch, both of Sioux City; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Pearl Lawson of Bloomfield, Neb.
Pallbearers will be Bob Johnson, Bryan Lynch, Doug Engle, Dick Matousek, Greg Myerchin and Barry Williams. Soloist will be Brian Johnson.
