Alys Lucille (Hane) Steffe, 100, of Sioux City died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2005, at Sunrise Retirement Community in Sioux City.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Moville United Methodist Church in Moville, Iowa, with the Rev. Ed Frank officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith McCulloch Chapel in Moville.

Mrs. Steffe was born Oct. 13, 1905, in rural Moville, the daughter of Andrew Phillip and Nora (Conway) Hane. She grew up on a farm near Moville and attended country school. She graduated from Moville High School in 1923. She later taught country school east of Bronson, Iowa (Windy Hill).

She was united in marriage to Hilburn Charles Steffe in Aug. 15, 1925. He passed away Dec. 25, 1992. They farmed around the Moville area until 1961, when they moved to Milford, Iowa. They lived and farmed in the Lakes area until 1982, when they moved to Hinton, Iowa.

She was a member of Moville United Methodist Church, but said she found God in her gardens. She loved crocheting, reading and roses. She also enjoyed fishing, playing Scrabble and games, all of which she did until she was no longer able.

Survivors include eight children and spouses, Hilburn "Bud" and Mary Steffe of Sioux City, Harlan "Gene" and Fairy Steffe of Moville and Chandler, Ariz., Dirl and Shirley Steffe of Piedmont, S.D., Beth and Duane Lau of Correctionville, Iowa, David and Joyce Steffe of Topeka, Kan., Leslie and Marilyn Steffe of Athens, Ga., Steve and Jan Steffe of Plainview, Texas, and Lissa Smouse of Sioux City; a sister, Phyllis Dunnington of Anthon, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Maxine Kuchel of Kingsley, Iowa, and Lucille Steffe of San Fernando, Calif.; 28 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hilburn Charles Steffe; two children, Danny Steffe and Heather Steffe; two great-grandchildren, Mariah Johnson and Margery Fox; four brothers, Virgil, Clayton, Philip and Frank Hane; and a sister, Peggy Dykstra.
