Edith R. Stanley, 71, of Sioux City died Monday, Nov. 28, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Revs. Leroy Mead and Marty Young officiating. Burial will be in Sloan Cemetery, Sloan, Iowa. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.

Edith was born Nov. 29, 1933, at home in Salix, Iowa, to Robert and Opal (Craig) Stanley. She graduated from Sloan High School in 1952. She worked at Sloan Mercantile store for two years, then moved to Sioux City. She worked at Postal Finance in Sioux City in 1954. She had been employed by Randall's Formal Wear since 1983.

She was a member of First Christian Church in Sioux City. She enjoyed reading and spending time with family.

She is survived by her mother, Opal I. Stanley; two sisters, Stella M. Stanley and Betty E. Newton; nieces and nephews, Janice Modglin, Ruth and her husband, Doug Ball, Donna and her husband, Jerry Varenhorst, Robert Held and his wife, Janet, Brad Held and his wife, Renee, John Held and his wife, Judy, Diane and her husband, Todd Joanning, Chuck Newton and his wife, Ann, Craig Newton and his wife, Corrie and Cheryl Newton; 10 great-nephews; five great-nieces; a great-great-niece; and many cousins, family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Stanley; three sisters, Gladys I. Modglin, Mabel S. Held and Ruth Elaine Stanley; and two brothers-in-law, Ralph Modglin and Robert Newton.

Pallbearers will be Craig Newton, Chuck Newton, Robert Held, Brad Held, John Held, Jerry Varenhorst, Todd Joanning and Doug Ball.
