Dr. James Moore Bolks, 91, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died Saturday, Nov. 5, 2005, at Cottage Grove Place in Cedar Rapids.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids, with the Rev. Mark Osterhaus of St. Matthew's Catholic Church officiating. Internment will be in Chapel of Memories Mausoleum in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Cedar Memorial Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids. Dr. Bolks was born on March 24, 1914, to Dr. and Mrs. Harry G. Bolks. He graduated from Sioux City Central High School in 1932 and the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in 1937. Dr. Bolks served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945. He joined his father's dental practice and continued the practice in Sioux City for 37 years.

James married Margaret Ryan in Sioux City at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church on Aug. 10, 1939. The couple lived in Sioux City until retirement when they moved to Lake Okoboji, Iowa, and Sun City West, Ariz. Dr. and Mrs. Bolks resided in Cedar Rapids at Cottage Grove Place from 1999 until the present.

He was president and secretary of the Iowa Woodbury Society and was a member of the Iowa Woodbury Gold Foil Study Club. He was an honorary life member of the Iowa Dental Society. He was an avid duck and pheasant hunter, who also enjoyed fishing, woodworking and, most of all, his family and friends.

His family includes two daughters, Nancy Vaile of Chicago, Ill., and Marjorie Chalus and her husband, Edwin, of Bettendorf, Iowa; five grandchildren, Kathryn, Ryan and Margaret Vaile and Amy and John Chalus; a brother and his wife, Richard and Marion Bolks of Tulsa, Okla.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, who died Feb. 13, 2005.
