7 April 2005ANTHON, Iowa -- Elsie H. Phillips, 93, of Anthon died Tuesday, April 5, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Anthon United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Karl Harmon officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon.
Elsie was born May 16, 1911, in Climbing Hill, Iowa, the daughter of Andrew and Margaret (Muxfeldt) Bierwirth. She graduated from Climbing Hill High School.
She was united in marriage to Joseph H. Phillips on Sept. 26, 1933, in Onawa, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Oto, Iowa area until they retired in 1983, to their home in Anthon. Joseph died Dec. 16, 1988. She moved to the Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa in September 2004.
She was a member of United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and the Anthon Women's Club. She enjoyed cooking, flowers, gardening, needlework and her goldfish and parakeet. She treasured her time spent with her grandchildren.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Colleen and Merlin Kollbaum of Anthon; five grandchildren, Kevin and Roxanne Kollbaum of Hornick, Iowa, Rena Piper of Green River, Wyo., Sherrie and Quentin Bodholdt of Newell, Iowa, Kenny and Patty Kollbaum of Anthon and Brad Kollbaum and his special friend, Brittany Reimert of Anthon; 11 great-grandchildren, Kenton Kollbaum, Ryan and Brett Baldwin, Candace and Ryan Jacobson, Kyle, Joel and Kacie Bodholdt, Derek and Dalton Kollbaum and Bethanie and Alexandra Kollbaum; and two sisters, Elnora Campbell and Mac Towers, both of Ventura, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sisters and their husbands, Ann and Fred Tabke and Marie and Elwin Spahn; a brother and his wife, Carl and Marie Bierwirth; two brothers-in-law, Darrell Campbell and Clifford Towers of Ventura, Calif.; a niece, Sharon (Spahn) Cline; and a nephew, Raymond Tabke.
