CORRECTIONVILLE, Iowa -- Wayne Henry Rath, 81, of Correctionville passed away unexpectedly Monday, Nov. 28, 2005, at his residence.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. today at Barker Funeral Home in Correctionville, with the Rev. Andrew Carlson of Grace Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Correctionville Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1750 and American Legion Post 79, of Correctionville.

Wayne was born March 6, 1924, north of Correctionville, the son of Henry and Mabel (Keller) Rath Jr. After serving in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946, he engaged in farming until 1952.

He was united in marriage to Virginia Ann Coleman on June 6, 1948, in Anthon, Iowa. The couple made their home in Correctionville and had four children, Russell, Michael, Deborah and Lynn. He was a beekeeper for his uncle, Milo Keller, until 1958. He also was a mechanic for 26 years for Arnburg Motors, then worked for the Department of Transportation for 11 years. His remaining years were spent as a senior aid worker for the Correctionville and Pierson, Iowa, area.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1750 and American Legion Post 79 for 58 years and served as a past commander for both. He was a dedicated server of the public and town of Correctionville. He was a volunteer fireman for 26 years and a friend to many. His hobbies included his love for his computer, sports, golfing and fishing.

Survivors include four children and spouses, Russell and Iva Rath of Sioux City, Michael and Libby Rath of Wentzville, Mo., Deborah and Dennis Evans of Correctionville and Lynn and Tom Anderson of Estherville, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; seven great-step-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Vernon and Loretta Rath of Aurelia, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia; his parents, Henry and Mabel Rath; two sisters and their husbands, Blanche and Robert Mcleish and Margaret and Ray Fixsel; and a granddaughter, Sara Rath.
