Arthur Peter "Art" Jepsen, 91, of Sioux City died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Alex T. Washington officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m, at the funeral home.

Mr. Jepsen was born April 17, 1914, in Ricketts, Iowa, the son of Jergen and Johanna (Broders) Jepsen. He was raised in Ricketts. He attended and graduated from Washta (Iowa) High School.

On Oct. 26, 1938, he married Cleo Schlinz in Cushing, Iowa. Together they raised their seven children. Cleo passed away Sept. 9, 2003.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1945 to 1947, when he was honorably discharged. Early in life, he began farming outside of Kingsley, Iowa, then moved to Cushing, Iowa to own a locker plant. At that time, he also started working for Raskin's Packing in Sioux City. He commuted back and forth until 1957, when the family moved to Sioux City. He had lived in Sioux City ever since. He pursued his career as a meat inspector for Raskin's full-time, retiring at the age of 62.

He was a member of Woodbury County Labor Council and the advisory board of the Salvation Army. He also served as president of the Raskin's Packing Union. He was an avid fisherman and gardener. He was involved with the Farmer's Market in Sioux City for several years.

Survivors include his seven children, Connie and her husband, Don Reese, of Sioux City, Garland Jepsen of Sioux City, Alan Jepsen of Sioux City, Gordon Jepsen of Sioux City, Randy Jepsen and his wife, Gloria, of Santa Ana, Calif., Stephen Jepsen of Sioux City and Anita and her husband, Brian, of Sioux City; a sister, Esther Schlinz; six grandchildren, Keith, Mark, David, Austin, Beck and Grace; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and three brothers.
