I. Vivian Nyhus, 87, of Sioux City died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, Calvin Chapel, with the Rev. William L. Love officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be one hour prior to the services Thursday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

I. Vivian Nyhus was born Nov. 27, 1917, in Sioux City, the daughter of Henry and Marvel (Atwood) Nyhus. She attended Sioux City schools, graduating from Central High School in 1936. She graduated from Edwards Business Institute and was a secretary for Iowa Public Service for 36 years. She was an early forerunner of the Women's Liberation Movement.

She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church and served in the deaconess board, a circle member and junior department superintendent for many years. She belonged to the Sioux City Women's Club and was a past president of the former Sioux City Business and Professional Club.

She volunteered her time with the Red Cross Grey Ladies and taught English to new immigrants at the Mary Treglia Community House in the 1950s. She was a world traveler and had visited 50 counties.

Survivors include a sister and her husband, Betty and Elmer Mulder of Friendswood, Texas; a sister-in-law, Mary A. Nyhus of Sioux City; eight nieces and nephews, Mary Ann Nyhus, Steve Nyhus, Diane (Dan) Glasson, Tom Nyhus and Nancy (Jerry) Green, all of Sioux City, Vicki Junck of Friendswood, Texas, Mike (Sue) Mulder of Iowa City, Iowa, and Tom (Ann) Mulder of Friendswood, Texas; and seven great-nieces and great-nephews, Danny, Debbie, Jenny, Lindsey, Kara, Stephen and Reis.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Eugene Nyhus; an infant sister, Bonnie; and a great-nephew, Jacob Mulder.

Pallbearers will be Tom Nyhus, Mike Mulder, Tom Mulder, Mary Ann Nyhus, Diane Nyhus Glasson, and Nancy Nyhus Green. Honorary pallbearers will be Earl Beatty, Don Ballard, Bill Atwood and Bob Atwood.
