Bernice Sophia Shinkle, 101, of Eugene, Ore., formerly of Sioux City, died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005, at Church Hill Estates.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Daniel C. Guenther, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 6:30 p.m., at Larkin Morningside Funeral Home.

Bernice S. German was born Aug. 19, 1904, near Princeville, Ill., the daughter of Maximilian Phillip and Mary Ann (Coyle) German.

She married James W. "Bill" Shinkle on Oct. 16, 1929, at Sacred Heart Church in Yankton, S.D. The couple later moved to Sioux City. Mr. Shinkle died on June 20, 1943, in Sioux City.

She was a member of Catholic Daughters of America, Ave Maria Court 269.

Survivors include daughters, Barbara Young of Fountain Valley, Calif., and Mary Ann Wilson of Eugene; sons, Derald James of Glenview, Ill., and Richard of Redondo Beach, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Donald of Golden, Colo., and a granddaughter, Nicole.

Memorials in her name may be directed to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
