JoAnn D. "Jody" Sandage, 79, of Sioux City died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2005, at a Sioux City nursing home following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Craig A. Collison officiating. Entombment will be in the Mausoleum of the Resurrection at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Larkin Northside Funeral Home.

Jody was born Oct. 4, 1926, in Storm Lake, Iowa, the daughter of John and Odetta (Manzer) Sullivan. She attended school in Storm Lake and graduated from St. Mary's High School in Storm Lake. She came to Sioux City and attended St. Joseph's School of Nursing and graduated in 1947.

She married Jack Sandage on Feb. 9, 1948, in Storm Lake. In Sioux City, she worked for Drs. Tracy and Hirsch, then for Dr. Robert Ashmore. After she retired from the doctors' offices, she did the books at the Berkemier Funeral Home for several years.

She was a 57-year member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was very active in the church where she worked the church dinners, the church rummage and with the school. She was a member of the Ladies of LaSallette. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan. She did ceramics, she was a lover of animals and she had a great sense of humor. The most important thing in her life was her time with her friends and family.

Survivors include her husband, Jack Sandage of Sioux City; two sons, Jon and his wife, Sheryl and Jeff and his special friend, Donna Willson, all of Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Judy and Gus LaScala of Treynor, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Eric and Callie LaScala, Misty and Rob Dobyns, Aaron and Erin Sandage, Angie Sandage, J. Blu Sandage, Nathan Sandage and Kyle Sandage; four great-grandchildren, Bella LaScala, Makenna Dobyns, Piper Sandage, Malia Sandage; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister, Marilyn; and a sister-in-law, Janice Sandage.

Pallbearers will be Eric LaScala, Rob Dobyns, Aaron Sandage, Kyle Sandage, Nathan Sandage and Cliff Collette.
