HINTON, Iowa -- Augusta Gene Jauer, 87, of Hinton died Thursday, Oct. 27, 2005, after a single-vehicle accident near her home.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Gary Snyder officiating. Graveside services will be noon Monday in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City.

Augusta was born Nov. 20, 1917, in Cameron, Mo., the daughter of William and Dinah (Hurt) Kanan. She came to Sioux City about 1942 and worked as a secretary for Cudahy's.

On Dec. 8, 1944, she was united in marriage to Allen Paul Jauer in Sioux City. The couple farmed near Hinton. After her husband died on Aug. 9, 1969, in Hinton, she continued to farm with her sons.

She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and the ladies church circle. She was also a member of Hinton Senior Citizens. Augusta enjoyed spending as much time as she could with her grandchildren. She was always there for anybody. She also enjoyed her card club and garden.

Survivors include a daughter, Cherron Wick of Des Moines, Iowa; two sons and their wives, Stanley and Vicki Jauer and Byron and Cindy Jauer, all of Hinton; a sister and her husband, Mary Lorene and Jim Morton of Sioux Falls, S.D.; nine grandchildren, Tonya Eaton, Alex Wick, Rachael Crane, Natelle Wick, Jill Frerichs, Marti Jauer, Ben Jauer, Devin Jauer and Joel Jauer; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two brothers, William and Joseph Kanan.

Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
