LYONS, Neb. -- Thomas Perry Hayworth, 75, of Lyons passed away Saturday, March 26, 2005, at his residence following a brief illness.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland, Neb., with the Rev. Mark Eldal officiating. The organist will be Ruth Wallerstedt. Burial will be at a later date. Military rites will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Robert Klase Post 7998 of Lyons and the American Legion Post 191 of Bancroft, Neb. Arrangements are under the direction of Palmquist-Pelan Funeral Home in Oakland, Neb.

Thomas was born Dec. 12, 1929, in Anthon, Iowa, the son of Thomas E. and Mary (Coon) Hayworth. He grew up and attended school in Anthon, graduating from Anthon High School in 1948. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy that same year, serving aboard the USS Gardiners Bay. He was honorably discharged in 1955.

In 1950, he married Vesta Watt. They were blessed with four children. On June 6, 1969, he married Lynette (Carroll) Heaton.

He worked as a John Deere mechanic and parts man in the Anthon and Lyons areas for many years. Following his retirement, he enjoyed many outdoor activities.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 191 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Robert Klase Post 7998.

Survivors include his wife, Lynette of Lyons; his daughters, Karen and her husband, Ted Mammen of Correctionville, Iowa, Lorna and her husband, Randy Dunkelberger of Hartley, Iowa, and Lois Ouellette of Sioux City; a son and his wife, Kenneth and Marie Hayworth of Correctionville, Iowa; stepchildren, Rick Heaton and his wife, Deborah of Quimby, Iowa, Deborah Lass and her special friend, Larry Smith of Arlington, Neb., Barbara and her husband, Doug George of Lyons and Dori Zessin and her special friend, James Booth of Omaha; a sister, Velma Oertel of Correctionville, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Cleo Pauley of Lyons; 21 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many good friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gracen and Vester; and a sister, Edna Munsen.

Honorary pallbearers will be Justin Hayworth, Terry Mammen, Lance Dunkelberger, John Ouellette, Eric Heaton, Adam Heaton, Michael Heaton, Jim Phillips, Derek George and Terry Zessin.

Memorials may be directed to the family

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
