Jerry Alan Barnes, 63, of Sioux City died Friday, April 1, 2005, at his residence.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel, with Glen Mixon officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Jerry was born Oct. 19, 1941, in Los Angeles, the son of Charles Kay and Gladys Belle (Rothman) Barnes. He moved to Sioux City as a young child. He attended Sioux City Public Schools.

On Dec. 23, 1960, he was united in marriage to Janice Mertz in Sioux City. Prior to his retirement, he was employed with Westwood Nursing Home as a nursing assistant for nine years.

He loved his family very much. He also liked working with leather, scratch tickets, fishing and working with his hands.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Barnes of Sioux City; four children, Randy Barnes and his wife, Vickey of Sergeant Bluff, Robin and her husband, Ervin Scott of Sioux City, Becky and her husband, Armando Venegas of Sioux City, and Jerry Alan Barnes Jr. of Sioux City; a sister, Opal of California; two brothers, Gene Barnes of Washington, and Sid Barnes of Florida; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and several friends.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Melinda Sue Barnes; a son, Richard Barnes; his parents; and two brothers, Darryl and Charles Barnes.
