JACKSON, Neb. -- Bernard J. Rush, 74, of rural Jackson died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Jackson, with the Rev. Richard J. Whiteing officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be in South Creek Cemetery, rural Ponca, Neb. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Larkin Northside Funeral Home in Sioux City.

Mr. Rush was born Oct. 27, 1930, in rural Jackson, the son of Daniel and Cecelia (Curran) Rush. He was a lifelong resident of Jackson. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He achieved the rank of staff sergeant. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal.

He married Ramona R. Kuta on Nov. 8, 1958, at Sacred Heart Church in Sioux City. He owned and operated a farm until his retirement in 1993.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ramona Rush of Jackson; two sons and their wives, Richard and Diane Rush and Brian and Christi Rush, all of Jackson; two daughters and their husbands, Cheri and Tom Twohig of Jackson and Laurie and Randy Sorenson of Aurora, Colo.; two brothers, Paul Rush of California, and Patrick Rush of Colorado; five sisters, Carole Rush of South Sioux City, Dorothy Landry of Sioux City, Millie Burns of Michigan, Pauline Schafer of Sioux City and Sister Delores Rush, O.S.B. of Yankton, S.D.; and 11 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Vern and Raymond Rush; and a sister, Marcella Rush.

Honorary pallbearers will be B.J. Gotch, Bryan Gotch, Cory Gotch, Brandon Rush, Michael Rush and Marty Beacom.
