Harold DeLoss Monlux 1941 - 2005

Harold DeLoss Monlux, 63, of Tulsa, Okla., formerly of Sioux City, went to be with his maker Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, after fighting a long and hard battle with Alzheimer's disease for nine years.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Floral Haven Funeral Home in Broken Arrow, Okla. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Tulsa.

Harold was born Aug. 18, 1941, in Omaha. He moved with his parents to Sioux City at the age of two. He graduated from Central High School in Sioux City in 1960, and moved to Tulsa where he attended Tulsa University, graduating in 1964 with a degree in petroleum marketing. He was in ROTC and after graduation from TU was commissioned as a second lieutenant the U.S. Air Force. He attended pilot training at Vance Air Force Base in Enid, Okla., graduating in 1966.

He served in Vietnam with the 559th TAC Fighter Squadron, stationed in Cam Rahn, South Vietnam. He was shot down on Nov. 11, 1966, was a POW in Hanoi, North Vietnam for six years and four months. He was awarded the Silver Star, two Purple Heart Medals, the Bronze Star and the Legion of Merit with two Oak Leaf Clusters. After returning from Southeast Asia, he was stationed in San Antonio, Texas, where he attended a flight refresher course. He was then assigned to Fairchild Air Force Base Survival School in Spokane, Wash., as an instructor.

He and his family moved back to Tulsa to make their home in 1975. He served in the Oklahoma House of Representatives from 1976 through 1980. He was a Realtor with John Hausam Realtors during that time.

He remained in the Air Force Reserves and served as commander of AFIS IRD 42 from August 1981 through December 1986. He retired as a full colonel after 20 years of service.

He is survived by his mother, Margaret Monlux of Sioux City; his wife of 41 years, Carol Lynn of Tulsa; a daughter, Tammy Monlux and two teen-age grandchildren, Brittany and Daniel Castillo, all of Tulsa; a brother and his wife, Raymond and Penny Monlux of Sioux City; a sister, Marilyn Monlux of Sioux City; a brother-in-law and his wife, Ken and Charlene Simmons of Wagoner, Okla.; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, DeLoss Harold Monlux.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Tulsa Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association or Oasis Adult Day Services.
