HORNICK, Iowa -- Olive M. O'Boyle, 98, of Hornick died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2005, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Catholic Church in Onawa, Iowa, with the Rev. Harry D. McAlpine officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a Scripture service at 7 p.m., at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Olive was born Nov. 17, 1906, in Hornick, the daughter of Estes and Estella (Tullis) Metcalf. She was raised in Hornick and graduated from Hornick High School in 1925. She then attended Morningside College a short time.

She married Tom D. O'Boyle in May 1927, in Oto, Iowa. The couple made their home in Hornick. Tom passed away in September 1963, in Sioux City.

She was a member of St. Philip's Catholic Church in Hornick until its closing, when she became a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Onawa. She was a member of bridge clubs, the Library Club, Hornick Study Club and the American Legion Hindman-Steel Auxiliary. She was a former member of St. Phillip's Altar Society. She also was an avid bowler.

Survivors include a daughter, Jane O'Boyle of Wheeling, Ill.; two sons, Dan of Hornick and Thomas and his wife, Connie of Fremont, Neb.; and two grandsons, Thomas D. O'Boyle and Michael O'Boyle.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mollie O'Boyle; two brothers, Arlo Metcalf and Carl Metcalf; and two sisters, Ethel Lloyd and Goldie Boyd.
