Charles A. Striegel, 90, of Sioux City died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Charles A. Striegel was born Sept. 15, 1914, in Sioux City, the son of Charles W. and Kathryn (Meyer) Striegel. He grew up in Sioux City and attended Trinity College in Sioux City and Cornell College in New York and studied hotel management. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 to 1945.

He married Joyce Davis on Nov. 16, 1946, in Sioux City. He owned and operated Beane Plumbing until the late 1980s.

He was a member of the Sertoma Club since the early 1950s and had served as president. He was recipient of the Honorable Lifetime award and was Sertoman of the Year in 1969, 1970 and 1993. In 1986, he helped with the American Flag Project to install the downtown fountain and flag.

He was an active member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and had been a member of the choir. He was responsible for the church Christmas decorations and headed a fund-raiser to renovate the steeple bells. He was a member of Business Leaders Club since 1952 and had served as president. He was a member of the Homebuilders Association and was named Associate of the Year in 1985 while owning and operating Beane Plumbing & Heating. He served as president of the Construction League in 1980 as well as the Siouxland Handicapped Children Association. He was a long-time member of the Siouxland Handicapped Children Association and Chamber of Commerce and was instrumental in the development of Morningside Days. He was named Boss of the Year in 1978 by ABWA. He was a volunteer for United Way and the Salvation Army and helped with the bell ringing.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce of Sioux City; a daughter, Peggy Deaton and her husband, Greg, of Sioux City; a son, Charlie Striegel and his wife, Mickey, of Sioux City; six grandchildren, Eric and Alyson Striegel, Brian and William Bliss, Amanda Smith and Elaine Spring; and two great-grandchildren, Chloe Spring and Kira Bliss.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Bertram, Erwin and Vincent; and a sister, Kathrine.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Holy Spirit Retirement Home.
