Charles J. Rowland, 76, of Sioux City died Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 3 p.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with Chaplain Leland Schmidt officiating. Following cremation, private graveside services will be held at a later date in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Charlie was born July 4, 1928, in Onawa, Iowa, the son of Charles R. and Alma A. (Hanson) Rowland. He was raised in Onawa.

He married Gloria C. Hedum on Jan. 15, 1955, in Omaha. He was an over-the-road trucker with several local companies over the years. More recently, he had been a crew hauler with BNSF Railroad. Mrs. Rowland passed away June 15, 1992, in Sioux City.

He enjoyed reading, playing cards and especially his kitty, Callie.

Survivors include four daughters, Andrea Gann, Janet and her husband, Norton Evans, Darice and her husband, Thomas Fickett and Kim Rowland, all of Sioux City; a son and his wife, David C. and Susan Rowland of Dubuque, Iowa; five sisters and their husbands, Shirley and Frank Pembrook of Hartington, Neb., Phyllis and DeWayne Mesenbrink, Jane and Ray Fletcher and Violet and Wayne Burgess, all of Onawa, Iowa, and Mary Ann and LaVail Lawson of Venita, Okla.; two brothers, Richard Rowland and his wife, Bev of Sterling, Colo., and Robert Rowland of Glenwood Springs, Colo.; 11 grandchildren, Bryan Goodman, Bernie Fickett, Terry Fickett, Shayne Evans, Ryan Evans, Corey Shultz, Joshua Shultz, Brandon Shultz, Nicholas Shultz, C.J. Rowland and Cassie Rowland; six great-grandchildren, Samantha, Brittney and Isabella Fickett, Casey, Kierra and Breanna Shultz; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four grandchildren, Jill Christine Evans, Stacie Evans, Sherri Michelle Fickett and Jeremiah Rowland; three brothers, Jess, Edward and Norman Rowland; and two sisters, Minnie Bean and Ella Rowland.

Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
