SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Dallas D. Welch, 66, of South Sioux City died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Merrill Muller officiating. Visitation with the family present will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Welch was born July 15, 1938, in Rugby, N.D., the son of Dallas and Eunice (DePriest) Welch. He grew up in North Dakota and came to the Sioux City area in the 1970s. He was a self-employed paint contractor for 35 years.

He was a friend of Bill W. and was an fan of the University of Oklahoma football and the St. Louis Cardinals baseball teams.

Survivors include two sons, David Welch and Brady Welch, both of Sioux City; two brothers, Dale Smutzler and his wife, Sandy of Las Vegas, Nev., and Ronnie Smutzler of Sioux City; two sisters and their husbands, Jeannie and Gordon Thompson of Knoxville, Iowa, and Janice and Don Byers of Sioux City; and three grandchildren, Tray Kucera, Christian Arnold and Hailey Welch.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, David Welch.

A memorial fund has been established in his name.
