CORRECTIONVILLE, Iowa -- Hilda M. (Westphal) Groepper, 94, of Correctionville, passed away on Friday, Nov. 18, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John Lutheran Church in Cushing, Iowa, with Pastor Curtis Benson officiating. Burial will be in Cushing Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 6 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Correctionville.

Hilda was born Aug. 9, 1911, in Battle Township southeast of Cushing, Iowa, the daughter of Ferdinand and Betty (Dittmer) Westphal. She attended Cushing Consolidated School and graduated from there in 1930.

She married Lester Groepper in 1935. They farmed in Ida and Woodbury counties until they retired to Correctionville in 1979. Hilda was a homemaker and seamstress.

She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Cushing, where she participated in the WELCA circle and the quilting group. She also belonged to a bridge club. Hilda enjoyed quilting, playing cards, jigsaw puzzles and baking. Most of all, she enjoyed having her family around her at birthday parties, holiday dinners, picnics and after home football games. Her positive attitude, patience and strong faith were a great inspiration to her family members.

Survivors include a son, Roger Groepper of San Diego, Calif.; a daughter, Marilyn (Robert) Heilman and a son-in-law, Lewis Reyman, all of Cushing; a sister, Freda Brosmale; a brother-in-law, Arnold Groepper, both of Cushing; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester; a daughter, Virginia Reyman; two sisters, Ella Meins and Linda Groepper, both of Cushing; a brother, Henry Westphal; two brothers-in-law, Henry Meins and Raymond Brosamle; and a sister-in-law, Marcella Westphal.
