Kenneth Merriel Williams, 96, of Sioux City died Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, in Sioux City following a brief illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Morningside Church of Christ, with the Rev. David B. Haynes officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

Mr. Williams was born Feb. 1, 1908, in Castana, Iowa, the son of Woodford and Myrtle Sarah (Baker) Williams. At an early age, his family moved to Sioux City. He had lived in Sioux City most of his life. He attended schools in Sioux City school system. When he was 16 years old, he went to work for Palmer Candy Co. He stayed there for many years.

He married Maxine Grace Trego on Dec. 23, 1933. He later worked for Swift and Co. After his retirement of one month, he went to work for Dean Drug Co.

He was a member of Morningside Church of Christ, where he was a former deacon. He was a very loving husband and father and was a friend to everyone. He loved being with his wife, Maxine, and other friends he had made through the years. In his earlier years, he loved to play baseball, bowling or just visiting with friends. For all of his 96 years, he had always been very active.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine Grace of Sioux City; a son and his wife, Gene and June Williams of Canton, Ga.; a granddaughter; two grandsons; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Fern Lilly and Lucille Jacobson.
