Lucia Lucille Coon, 87, of Sioux City died Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, with the Rev. David Zirpel officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8:30 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

Lucille was born March 11, 1917, to Norval and Fae (Shipley) Larson, on a farm between Ute and Charter Oak, Iowa. She was baptized at the Soldier Valley Lutheran Church in Soldier, Iowa, and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in Sioux City. She was a 1933 graduate of Smithland (Iowa) High School. She lived on farms in Ute, Mapleton, Rodney and Smithland, Iowa, before moving to Sioux City in 1942.

She married Loyal Simmon in 1935. She later married Clifford Coon on Feb. 14, 1959, in Sioux City. She enjoyed a long career at various grocery stores in the Sioux City area and at Bekins Furniture. Since her retirement, she greeted countless area residents every week as a grocery product demonstrator.

She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Siouxland Senior Center and the Retirement Club at the Salvation Army.

She is survived by her husband, Clifford Coon of Sioux City; a sister-in-law, Fern Willman of Whiting, Iowa; a daughter and her husband, Louise and Jerry Wehde of Omaha; two sons and their wives, Larry and Maggie Simmon of Springfield, Mo., and Robert and Mary Jo Simmon of Green Valley, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to Redeemer Lutheran Church.
