SERGEANT BLUFF -- Marilyn Lea Petersen, 63, lifelong Sergeant Bluff resident, died Thursday, July 6, 2006, at her residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Community United Methodist Church in Sergeant Bluff, with Pastor Deborah Stowers officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel in Sioux City.

Marilyn was born Sept. 25, 1942, in Sergeant Bluff to Leonard "Morgan" and Verla Lucille (Hoopingardner) Camerer. She grew up and attended Sergeant Bluff schools, graduating from Sergeant Bluff High School, where she played basketball and was a majorette in the marching band.

On Oct. 14, 1961, she married Clarence "Red" Petersen at Moorhead, Iowa. The couple had four children, Cindy, Christina, Cheri and Mark. Marilyn stayed at home to raise her family until the youngest was old enough to attend school. She then went to work for Gordman's, formerly the Half Price Store, for about 12 years. She then served as an in-home day-care provider in Sergeant Bluff for several years. Most recently, she was a teacher's associate at the Sergeant Bluff Primary School.

Marilyn was an energetic, well-organized and compassionate person. Her hobbies included traveling, camping, decorating her home, spending time outdoors, dancing and doing ceramics. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Mark and Deborah Petersen of Sergeant Bluff; three daughters and their husbands, Cindy and Robert Conrad of South Sioux City, Christine and Kirk Wilson of Sergeant Bluff, and Cheri and Peter Salenius of Mendon, Mass.; six grandchildren, Curtis Simonson, Eric Wilson, Reece Rensink, Kelsey Wilson, Katie Salenius and Elizabeth Salenius; a great-grandchild, Alyssa Simonson; a loving and dear companion, Ed Schenzel; a sister and her husband, Noni and Billy Sparkman of Winnesboro, Texas; three brothers, Larry and his wife, Donna Camerer of Mesa, Ariz., Dan Camerer and special friend, Elaine of Spanish Fork, Utah, and John and his wife, Ann Camerer of Sioux City; a sister-in-law, Julia Emge of Salix, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Steve and his wife, Lisa Petersen of Salix; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Clarence.
