Betty C. Silverberg, 81, of Storm Lake, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, in an Omaha hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, at Congregation Beth Shalom in Sioux City, with Rabbi Bonnie Leavy officiating. Burial will be in Mount Sinai Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Miss Silverberg was born Nov. 30, 1923, in Sioux City, the daughter of Solomon and Helen (Major) Silverberg. She grew up in Elk Point, S.D., and graduated from Storm Lake High School. She received a bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa and a master's degree from the University of Nebraska.

Her career was one of helping people through social work and counseling in numerous communities in Iowa and Nebraska. At the end of her career, she taught at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake before retiring.

She was a member of Congregation Beth Shalom and was confirmed at Mount Sinai Temple. She enjoyed reading, classical music and her pets.

Survivors include her brother and his wife, Julian and Karen Silverberg of Newton, Iowa; her longtime friend, Jo Aarsby of Storm Lake; a sister-in-law, Leila Silverberg of Milwaukee, Wis.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Bernard Silverberg.
