SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Cora S. Burgess, 93, of South Sioux City passed away Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at her residence at Regency Square in South Sioux City.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, with the Rev. James Kruse officiating. Burial will be in Floyd Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.

Cora was born March 15, 1911, in Vinje, Winnebago County, Iowa, the daughter of Morgan O. and Caroline (Gaaserud) Olson. She graduated from Waldorf Academy in Forest City, Iowa.

She married Maris D. "Hap" Burgess on Feb. 24, 1940, in Marshalltown, Iowa. He died Jan. 9, 1993, in South Sioux City.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church, the church choir, Church Circle II of the E.L.C.A. and taught Sunday School. She was a member of the P.E.O. Chapter DE, a former member of the Waldorf Choir, the P.T.A. in South Sioux City, a former Scout leader and The Piecemakers quilting group.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, John and Denise of Rancho Senta Margarita, Calif., and Lyman and Brenda of West Bloomfield, Mich.; two daughters and their husbands, Karen Burgess-Kohn and Larry Kohn of Lakewood, Colo., and Mary and David Heck of Homer, Neb.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Eric Morgan Burgess.

Pallbearers will be David Heck, Roger Heck, Wm. B. Rohde, Larry Kohn, Josh and Cameron Burgess and Loy Todd.

Memorials in her name may be directed to the Regency Square Memorial Fund
