CORRECTIONVILLE, Iowa -- James L. Rex, 48, of Correctionville passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Church of Christ in Correctionville, with Cliff Cockburn officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Anthon, Iowa. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon, Iowa.

James Louis Rex was born July 12, 1956, in Leon, Iowa, to Patty Jo (Harris) and Louis Sherman Rex. He graduated from Rembrandt (Iowa) Consolidated High School in 1974.

He was united in marriage to Cindy McDermott, daughter of Vincent and Delores (Broderson) McDermott of Anthon, on Jan. 6, 1984. This marriage welcomed three children, daughter, Destiny, 22, and sons, Dylan, 16, and Dalton, 13.

He worked for American Identity for just over 10 years, when he went back to school to be an automotive technician. He graduated with honors from Western Iowa Tech Community College in December 2003. After graduation, he worked for Automotive Electric, then Alignment Specialist and was currently working at Woody's Auto Repair in Sioux City.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on cars, cooking on the grill, watching his children's activities, camping, TOOLS and spending time with his wife, children and granddaughter, Serenity.

Survivors include his wife, Cindy of Correctionville; two sons, Dylan and Dalton, both of Correctionville; a daughter, Destiny of Cushing, Iowa; a granddaughter, Serenity of Cushing; his mother, Patty Jo Rex of Milton, Fla.; three sisters, Patricia Gail Rex and Chris of Milton, Fla., Margaret Jean "Maggie" and Tony Putzier of Correctionville and Elizabeth Ann "Libby" Rex of Aurelia, Iowa; a brother, Alvin Lavon Rex and Judy of Marathon, Iowa; aunts, uncles and cousins; many nieces and nephews; and "adopted" children from all over.

He was preceded in death by his father, Louis Sherman Rex; grandparents, Alvin and Margaret Rex and Harvey and Gail Harris of Lamoni, Iowa; and his father-in-law, Vinnie McDermott of Anthon.
