Mary Lou Meacham, 73, of Reno, Nev., formerly of Sioux City, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at her residence following a lengthy illness.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Steven Brodersen officiating. Friends and family will celebrate her life and love at 4 p.m. Saturday at the home of Richard and Debbie Ganchan in Reno.

Mary Lou was born Feb. 21, 1931, in Sioux City, the daughter of Virgil and LaVina (Schimberg) Head. She graduated from East High School.

She married Charles T. Meacham at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in June 11, 1949. They lived in Sioux City throughout their marriage. She helped and supported Charles in the family business, Meacham's Homemade Pies, until its closing in 1963.

The couple were active in raising their children, church renewal and the Boy and Girl Scouting. After Charles died June 14, 1970, she continued to work and support many programs in Sioux City including, ARC and the Community Action Agency until moving to Reno in 1978. She was employed at Pezonella and Associates until 2003.

She enjoyed gardening, golf programming and game shows, especially Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy and always hoped to appear on those shows. Most of all, her greatest enjoyment came from her children and being Gramma Lou to her grandchildren.

Survivors include four daughters, Sue and her husband, Steve Warden and Bernie and her husband, Roger Hess, all of Sioux City, Jeanne and her husband, Skip Houk and Melinda Meacham, all of Reno; two sons and their wives, Mike and Pam and Bill and Jo, all of Reno; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Robert and Eilene of New Brighton, Minn.; a brother-in-law and his wife, Bill and Mary Meacham of Burnsville, Minn.; a sister-in-law and her husband, Mary Kay and Bill Thompson of Sioux City; and a special "foster" son and his wife, Phil and Paula Glover of Reno.

In addition to her husband, Charles, she was preceded in death by her parents; and a daughter, Mary.

Memorials in her name may be sent to the Orvis School of Nursing Scholarship Fund, University of Nevada, Reno (mail stop 134).
