SERGEANT BLUFF -- Julia E. "Judy" Longstaff, 73, of Sergeant Bluff died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Memorial services will be 5 p.m. Sunday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Alex T. Washington officiating. Visitation with the family present will be one hour prior to the service Sunday at the funeral home.

Julia was born Oct. 5, 1931, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the daughter of Leo and Ruth (Samuelson) O'Connor. She graduated from Corpus Christi High School in Fort Dodge.

She was the first commissioned major appliance sales woman in the state of Iowa, working for Younker Martins at the time. She retired in 2001 from Williams TV and Appliance, where she worked as a sales associate.

She was a member of the Eagle's Women Auxiliary.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Jean and Roger Hassebroek of Sergeant Bluff; a brother, Patrick O'Connor of Grayslake, Ill.; two sisters, Deloris and her husband, William Minor, of Kirksville, Mo., and Mary Julius of Bettendorf, Iowa; her grandchildren, Thaddeus Hassebroek and his wife, Farrah, of Sergeant Bluff and Kristine Hassebroek of Sergeant Bluff; three great-grandsons, Nathan and Connor Shilling and Hunter Hassebroek; and a great-granddaughter, Ava Hassebroek.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Jay Longstaff; a brother, James O'Connor; and a sister, Margaret O'Connor.

Honorary pallbearers will be Thaddeus Hassebroek, Farrah Hassebroek, Kristine Hassebroek, Nathan Shilling, Connor Shilling, Hunter Hassebroek and Ava Hassebroek.
