SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Bernard William Broveak, 85, of South Sioux City passed away Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. today at First Presbyterian Church in South Sioux City, with the Rev. Stephen Niles officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.

Bernard was born June 5, 1919, in Sioux City, the son of Maxwell W. and Lillian E. (Carpenter) Broveak. He graduated from Jefferson (S.D.) High School. He was a World War II veteran and was proud to serve his country with the U.S. Navy, LSM91 with the 3rd Amphibians as a radar operator.

He married Marilyn J. Addison on Dec. 10, 1946, in Dakota City.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10753 of South Sioux City.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marilyn; a son, Paul of Dakota City; a sister and her husband, Betty and Con Mansfield of North Sioux City; seven grandchildren, Jeff and Vicky Broveak, Lisa and David Veldman, Suzanne and Tim Dunn, Tania and Winston Hide, Tim Broveak, Paul Broveak Jr. and Gillian and Dan Jungwirth; 10 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lowell; a daughter-in-law, Carol Broveak; and a grandson, Richard Broveak.
