Wayne J. Collins, 83, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Steven W. Brodersen officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a Catholic Daughters of America rosary at 4 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Morningside Funeral Home.

Mr. Collins was born April 22, 1921, in Danbury, Iowa, the son of Leo and Elizabeth (Remier) Collins. He grew up in Danbury.

He married Ernestine M. Thomsen on Nov. 9, 1942, at St. Patrick's Church in Danbury. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1946. He drove a bus for the Sioux City Transit System for 10 years. He then was employed as an exterminator for Robar Pest Control for 18 years. He was then employed as an engineer for the Sioux City School System for 13 years.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Siouxland Senior Center. He served as a former president of the Sioux Puffer's Square Dance Club and Holiday Rambler Travel Club. He loved his family and his memory will be cherished.

Survivors include his wife, Ernestine M. Collins of Sioux City; a son and his wife, Gerold and Charlotte (Newburn) Collins of Sioux City; two daughters and their husbands, Elizabeth "Dee Dee" and Jim Tymkowicz of Sioux City and Mary and Larry Ficken of Castle Rock, Colo.; a brother and his wife, Jim and Devilda Collins of Danbury, Iowa; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Bernice Carlson and Delores Stanton.
